Drinking water: new plans to improve tap water quality and cut plastic litter

On Tuesday, Members of European Parliament adopted plans to increase consumer confidence in drinkable tap water, which is much cheaper and better for the environment than bottled water.

The new regulations reduce the maximum limits for certain pollutants such as lead (halved), polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), harmful bacteria and endocrine disrupters, and set new parameters for monitoring plastic microfinaments that have caused growing concerns.
