Agnieszka Pomaska visited the PGZ Naval Shipyard in Gdynia, where the “Miecznik” programe is being implemented, the largest modernization project of the Polish Navy in decades. As part of the programme, three modern multi-role frigates are being constructed: ORP Wicher, ORP Burza, and ORP Huragan.
During the visit, the progress of work on the first vessel was presented, with its launch scheduled for August. The frigates will serve in the Polish Navy and constitute one of the key elements in strengthening security in the Baltic Sea region.
Each vessel will measure approximately 138 meters in length and have a displacement of up to 7,000 tonnes. The ships will be equipped to carry out a wide range of operational tasks, including the protection and surveillance of critical infrastructure and maritime areas such as the Baltic Pipe, offshore wind farms, and telecommunications infrastructure.
The new frigates will also be capable of countering surface, underwater, and aerial threats, protecting national and allied forces, and supporting maritime operations as well as humanitarian missions.
The “Miecznik” programme is of strategic importance for the development of Poland’s defense capabilities and the strengthening of security in the Baltic Sea region.
