Laying of the Cornerstone for the Gas-Fired Power Plant in Gdańsk

2026-05-11

Agnieszka Pomaska participated in the cornerstone-laying ceremony for the construction of a gas-fired power plant in Gdańsk. This is the first large-scale energy investment of its kind in northern Poland and is expected to play a significant role in the country’s energy transition and in strengthening the stability of the national power system.

The new power unit will have a net generating capacity of approximately 560 MW. According to project assumptions, the investment will enable the production of electricity sufficient to meet the annual demand of around 1.2 million households. Over the course of 20 years of operation, the plant is expected to generate approximately 43.2 TWh of electricity.

The project also represents a major economic stimulus for the region. At the peak of construction, nearly 700 people will be employed on site, while the total number of working hours is expected to exceed 3 million.

During the ceremony, it was emphasized that the development of modern and flexible energy sources is essential for ensuring the country’s energy security and supporting the continued expansion of renewable energy sources.

The investment was described as an important step forward for Gdańsk, the Pomerania region, and Poland’s energy sector as a whole.
