On 9 July 2025, Agnieszka Pomaska as Chair of the European Union Affairs Committee, held a meeting with the Canadian Ambassador to Poland, Catherine Godin.
The meeting took place at the Sejm and concerned Polish-Canadian trade relations. It took place shortly after the signing of the historic EU-Canada Security and Defence Partnership Agreement.
The Security and Defence Partnership Agreement between the European Union and Canada was signed on 23 June 2025 in Brussels. It covers a wide range of cooperation, including support for Ukraine, crisis management and peacekeeping missions under the Common Security and Defence Policy, or cyber security and countering information manipulation.
The EU’s cooperation with Canada is crucial when it comes to increasing its independence vis-à-vis the US. With this agreement, the EU gains a strategic partner, thereby enhancing its ability to mobilise forces and respond jointly to crises.
