We are addressing a request to Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki to address the issue of the illegal, inflated salaries of PKN Orlen CEO Daniel Obajtek and enforce the law, KO deputies Agnieszka Pomaska, Tadeusz Aziewicz and Cezary Tomczyk said at a Friday conference.
Civic Coalition MPs Agnieszka Pomaska, Tadeusz Aziewicz and Cezary Tomczyk held a press conference on Friday on the earnings of PKN Orlen CEO Daniel Obajtek. Pomaska stressed that despite the notification, no prosecutor’s office wants to take up the case, although, she noted, in her opinion a crime has been committed.
„At Orlen, the law on chimneys and the law around the budget is being circumvented, and as a result, members of Orlen’s board of directors are drawing inflated salaries, according to a recent report in 2021. We call on the Attorney General to speak out on this issue – the MP stressed. In her opinion, „inflated salaries continue to be collected, and this practice must be curbed.”
Tadeusz Aziewicz added that an audit conducted at the Ministry of State Assets shows that „the minister does not feel obliged to supervise the Orlen company.” „The officials who spoke to us behaved like the old recidivist in a conversation with a prosecutor: I don’t know, I haven’t heard, it’s not me,” – Aziewicz said. „It is clear that PKN Orlen is no longer supervised by the ministry, and Chairman Obajtek is in a stronger position than Deputy Prime Minister Sasin.” – The MP added.
Cezary Tomczyk recalled that CEO Daniel Obajtek, once asked about his salary, was unable to provide a legal basis. „Because he knew that if he indicated, he would have to give it back, because it was about millions of zlotys of illegally collected salary by Mr. Obajtek and other people who work in state-owned companies.”
„In connection with the inaction of the Ministry of State Assets, we are today addressing a request to the Prime Minister to enforce the law. So that the money that was illegally delivered to the pockets of Mr. Obajtek goes back to the SOEs – Tomczyk said. „These are losses for which we all pay, because this is the state treasury, the treasury of all Poles,” the MP added. In his view, the authorities „know that there has been a violation of the law, but they are treating this as a hot potato and will do everything to avoid dealing with the matter until the elections.”
