72 years ago Nazi Germany surrendered to the Allies. This meant the end of the war in Europe.
Anniversary celebrations were prepared at the monument in Gdansk. Representatives of authorities, social organizations and uniformed services, as well as combatants, youth and diplomats took part in event.
„This was a war in which the greatest civilian casualties were to befall,” said Paweł Adamowicz, Gdansk’s president. – For the first time in history, the plan of annihilation of the entire nation, of the Jewish people, was planned and executed. Other nations were reduced to slavery.
The ceremony ended with the prayers of the Catholic and Orthodox clergy and representatives of the Jewish community. Flowers were also placed under the monument.
