On September 11, MP Agnieszka Pomaska met with the Ambassador of Montenegro, Veljko Milonjić. The discussion focused primarily on the directions of Montenegro’s foreign policy, in particular its aspirations related to European integration.
Montenegro’s most important goal today is accession to the European Union. This process began in 2007, when the Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the EU was signed. A year later, Montenegro submitted its application for membership, and in 2010 it was granted candidate country status. Accession negotiations formally started in 2012.
Since the beginning of the negotiations, Montenegro has been consistently implementing political, economic, and legal reforms, aligning its institutions with EU standards.
Most of the negotiating chapters have already been opened, with some provisionally closed.
Although the process is demanding and time-consuming, Montenegro remains one of the most committed candidates, and its ambition is to join the European community as soon as possible.
