Greece: EPP President welcomes the Greek Presidency of the Council of the European Union

2014-01-010

Greece today has taken the helm of the rotating six-month Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The President of the European People’s Party (EPP), Joseph Daul, welcomed the Greek Presidency and expressed his full confidence in Prime Minister Antonis Samaras:

“Under the able leadership of Prime Minister Samaras, I have no doubt that the Greek Presidency of the Council of the EU will be successful. We face significant challenges at the European level, but Prime Minister Samaras is a proven leader with experience in trying times. He took over as the Prime Minister of Greece during extraordinarily  difficult economic and financial circumstances inherited from previous governments, and his efforts are beginning to show positive results. The Greek Presidency of the Council of the EU has pledged to prioritise growth and jobs, and to further deepen the integration of the Economic and Monetary Union. I am confident that this ambitious and comprehensive agenda will lead Europe further in the right direction.”
