In response to a complaint filed by MP Agnieszka Pomaska and MP Barbara Nowacka, the Media Ethics Council ruled that material broadcast by Telewizja Republika violated the principles set out in the Media Ethics Charter – the principles of respect and tolerance, as well as freedom and responsibility.
The case concerns a report broadcast on July 30, which featured a recording of a song by Liliana Wiadrowska. In the song, Ukrainians living in Poland were portrayed as “parasites,” ungrateful people and individuals privileged at the expense of Poles. We filed a complaint with the Media Ethics Council over the matter.
The Media Ethics Council also pointed out that the repetition of Russian propaganda may serve to sow division between the societies of countries supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
There can be no acceptance of the dehumanization of entire groups, the incitement of hatred, or the spread of Russian propaganda. The media are responsible for the words they use, the way they portray reality, and the consequences of the content they publish.
