U2 concert and the „Solidarity” flag. Bono about Poles

2017-07-310

At the Amsterdam show, Irish singer Bono invited a Polish fan to hold the Solidarity flag. Embracing a Pole in front of more than 100,000 people, he called people to „express the words of love and freedom” to Poland.

The fan holding the flag was invited to the scene by a singer after playing „New Year’s Day”, a 1982 hit inspired by Lech Wałęsa’s history of martial law.

Bono, apart from the greeting addressed to Polish women and Poles, who „take their freedom away”, also wished Lech Walesa’s return to health.
