At the beginning of February, Agnieszka Pomaska took part in an international delegation to Taiwan. In Taipei, together with the #United4Ukraine delegation, meetings were held with politicians, experts, and journalists from the region as well as international partners.
As part of the visit, discussions took place, among others, with Hsiao Bi-khim, Vice President of Taiwan, and Joseph Wu, Minister of Foreign Affairs. The talks focused on international security, pressure from authoritarian regimes, and the experiences and lessons drawn from the war in Ukraine. An important topic was also economic cooperation between Europe and Taiwan—crucial for the resilience of European economies and the stability of global markets.
Taiwan has strategic global importance because it:
-
is a pillar of global supply chains and advanced technologies,
-
is a key element of the security balance in the Indo-Pacific region,
-
is a symbol of whether democracies are capable of defending the principles on which the international order is based.
The stability of Taiwan means security for Europe, global supply chains, and our raison d’état. Freedom does not defend itself—action always costs less than inaction.
