On 13 January, Agnieszka Pomaska participated in the first meeting of the Cyprus Presidency of the European Union, which took place in Nicosia.
The agenda was strongly focused on the current geopolitical situation and the challenges facing international law and democratic processes. During the meeting, the following issues were discussed, among others:

Ukraine – the importance of securing borders after the end of the war as a condition for lasting peace and stability in Europe.

Iran – serious human rights violations and the need for a clear and decisive response from Europe.

Venezuela – the need for democratic solutions, respect for election results, the rule of law, and citizens’ rights.

Greenland – the importance of the right of its inhabitants to self-determination and support for Denmark.
It was emphasized that a lack of unity and decisive action by the European Union leads to a situation in which other international actors impose their own rules. Parliamentarians bear particular responsibility for Europe’s credibility and for defending its values.
