On 13–14 November 2025, a ceremonial signing of contracts for the construction of a new, sixth fuel transshipment berth “W” took place at the Northern Port in Gdańsk. Agreements were also signed regarding the preparation of documentation for the expansion of road and rail access infrastructure to the existing and planned deep-water terminals in the Northern Port.
The event was attended by Arkadiusz Marchewka, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure, representatives of the Port of Gdańsk Authority, local government officials and members of parliament, including MP Agnieszka Pomaska.
The project, implemented since May 2025, includes land development and the construction of new elevated road connections that will significantly improve access to port terminals. The new transshipment berth “W” will be one of the most versatile in the entire port — alongside berth T — and will be designed with the future needs of the energy sector in mind. It will enable the handling of all types of tankers with a draft of up to 15 metres capable of passing through the Danish Straits, which will significantly increase the operational capabilities of the Northern Port.
As part of the investment, Naftoport is carrying out, among other things, the construction of a 672-metre viaduct, the installation of 1,229 foundation piles, the development of 2.95 hectares of land, and the total project area amounts to 180,733 m². The works also include 800,000 m³ of dredging, which will allow for the safe handling of around 480 vessels per year. Naftoport’s share in the investment is 52%, and the total value of the project is estimated at around 0.5 billion PLN.
This investment constitutes an important development boost for the Pomerania region, which is undergoing dynamic transformation thanks to parallel energy projects — such as offshore wind farms and preparations for the construction of a nuclear power plant. The expansion of the Northern Port strengthens the country’s energy, military and food security by ensuring stable and safe access to fuels. It also highlights the growing role of Polish ports in the national security system, as well as the significance of the Baltic Sea as a key area for Poland’s energy sovereignty.
