Government Reshuffle: New Cabinet Announced!

2025-07-23

On Wednesday, July 23, 2025, a government reshuffle took place, carried out by the Prime Minister, Donald Tusk. The changes affected both the administrative structure and the personal composition of the Council of Ministers. One of the main outcomes was the reduction of the number of ministers from 26 to 21, as well as the creation of two new major ministries – of Economy and of Energy.
The reshuffle was a response to internal tensions within the coalition and declining public support following Rafał Trzaskowski’s defeat in the presidential election on June 1, which was won by Karol Nawrocki.
“This is an important day for all of us. There are moments in a country’s history when one has to get a grip and stand firmly on the ground,” said Donald Tusk while announcing the government reshuffle. He also added: “I don’t want to waste time on coalition squabbles. As Prime Minister, I will not tolerate unnecessary conflicts in the government. That is out of the question. If someone doesn’t like it, they’ll part ways with the government.”
The head of government clearly emphasized that his goal is to increase effectiveness of the administration and to demonstrate unity within the coalition. The changes are also meant to prepare the government for cooperation with a president coming from the parliamentary opposition.
Radosław Sikorski remains the Minister of Foreign Affairs, but has also assumed the role of Deputy Prime Minister.
Andrzej Domański, the current Minister of Finance, has become the head of the newly established Ministry of Finance and Economy.
Waldemar Żurek, a Supreme Court judge previously dismissed under the PiS government, has taken over the position of Minister of Justice, replacing Adam Bodnar.
Miłosz Motyka (from the PSL party) became the Minister of the newly established Ministry of Energy, which has absorbed the responsibilities of the former ministries of climate, environment, and industry.
Wojciech Balczun has taken charge of the Ministry of State Assets, which will be crucial for implementing the country’s energy policy.
Jolanta Sobierańska-Grenda has been appointed Minister of Health, Marta Cienkowska will head the Ministry of Culture, and Maciej Kierwiński has become the new Minister of the Interior.
As part of the reform, the Ministry of Industry, previously led by Marzena Czarnecka, and the Ministry of Development and Technology, headed by Krzysztof Paszyk, have been dissolved.
Tusk announced that the work of the new ministers will be subject to evaluation – the first review will take place after one month, with further evaluations held quarterly; a lack of results will result in dismissal.
The swearing-in of the new ministers is scheduled for Thursday, July 24; the first cabinet meeting is planned for Friday, July 25.
