Agnieszka Pomaska was born January 8, 1980 in Gdynia. She is a center-right politician, member of the Polish parliament (Civic Platform)  and the former vice-chairman of Gdansk City Council.

Education

She graduated from the Mikołaj Kopernik High School in Gdańsk in 1999 and went on to study Political Science at the University of Gdańsk. In 2005 she was awarded a Master’s degree in political science.

Sport

During her student years she was very successful in sailing having won Sailing Class Optimist in Poland Championships  (1994), and being the  world second vice-champion of Olympic Class Mistral (1998) and  the champion of Windsurfing Freestyle in Poland (2000). She also represented her University in skiing tournaments and still participates in skiing championships organized by the Civic Platform Party. Recently she has taken up mountain bike marathon races (mtb).

Political activity

Agnieszka Pomaska started her political activity by joining the youth of Civic Platform Party  Young Democrats Association (Stowarzyszenie “Młodzi Demokraci’) becoming a member of its board in Gdańsk  in 2001.

She also became an active member of Gdansk’s structures of the party. As a result she  was appointed  the Secretary of the Region in 2008.

In 2002-2009 she was elected twice to the Gdansk City Council where she held the position of vice-chairman and chairman of the Tourism and City Promotion committee.

In 2007 Agnieszka Pomaska run for the national parliamentary elections gaining 9495 votes. As the amount was insufficient at the beginning, she became MP on June 24, 2009  replacing Jaroslaw Walesa who was elected a member of the European Parliament. In the next parliamentary elections that took place in 2011, MP Pomaska received 16 117 votes, which led to the renewal of the mandate. During elections on 25th of October 2015, her deputy mandate was renwed by receiving 22 196 votes. In the last parliamentary election on 13th October 2019 she received 39 103 votes and was elected to Sejm again.

Since March 2010 she is a chairman of the Civic Platform in Gdansk. On April 2015 she was elected as vice-chairman of the Civic Platform in Pomerania. On 16th December 2017 Agnieszka Pomaska became a member of national board of Civic Platform.

On 24th November 2019 MP Pomaska was elected as the Vice-president of the European’s People Party Women association.

Since October 2020 Agnieszka Pomaska is the Coordinator of foreign contacts of the Civic Platform.

Parliamentary work

In the Parliament Agnieszka represents the interests of Gdansk and Pomerania. In 2011-2015 she chaired the European Union Affairs Committee and worked in the Committee on Liaison with Poles Abroad.

Since 2015 Agnieszka Pomaska is Vice-chairperson of the European Union Affairs Committee.

From 2015 till 2019 she was a Member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Since December 2019 Agnieszka Pomaska is a Member of the Environment Protection, Natural Resources and Forestry Committee.

On December 2019 she established and became the Chairwoman of the Parliamentary Group „Break free from plastic”.

Since 2020 MP Pomaska is a Vice-Chairwoman of the Delegation for the Parliamentary Assembly of OSCE.

Other activities

Since 2009 Agnieszka Pomaska gives trainings and shares her experiences with youth activists from Europe as IRI Citycraft Institute Trainer.

She also attended Swedish Institute Management Program in 2010, scholarship organised by Ministry of Foreign Affairs in France in 2012 and International Visitor Leadership Program in USA in 2015.
