Meeting of the Presidents of the European Commission (COSAC) in Malta

2017-05-300

Between 28 and 30 May the meeting of the Presidents of the European Commission (COSAC) was held in Malta.

One of the priorities of the Maltese Presidency is the problem of migration. During a discussion with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, a member of the Polish delegation – Vice-President of the Sejm’s EU Commission Agnieszka Pomaska - said, inter alia, that the policy of migration must be a reasonable, thoughtful, sometimes cautious policy, but can not feed on human fear. In her view, terrorism can not be overcome through fear and it should be a clear message from national parliaments to European politicians. According to the MP, it is necessary to say firmly „NO!” For those who want to frighten citizens to capitalize on political capital.

COSAC is a forum for cooperation between the committees of the European Parliaments of the EU Member States and the European Parliament. COSAC supports the exchange of information and best practices between national parliaments and the European Parliament. According to the Lisbon Treaty, COSAC may submit any comments it deems appropriate to the attention of the European Parliament, the Council and the European Commission. COSAC Plenary Meetings take place twice a year in the capital of the EU Presidency. According to the COSAC regulations, the Polish delegation consists of 6 members – 4 deputies and 2 senators.
